Founded in 2022 to preserve the beautiful neighborhoods and natural areas of East Bend.

Mission Statement

To protect the traditional rural lifestyle east of Bend, Oregon by providing a platform where neighbors and property owners can collectively lobby to preserve their agricultural way of life.

The Preserve East Bend non-profit originated when a group of six neighbors who live at the end

of Bear Creek Road learned that Deschutes County Solid Waste Advisory Council (SWAC) was

seriously considering constructing the new one hundred year / 50-m Million cubic yard

county landfill at the end of our road.

Initially, we hired Mike McLane of Lynch , McLane and Murphy McLane, LLP., as our

legal representative and advisor through a fee-sharing agreement. After reaching out to our

neighbors, it did not take long to grow our contact group from six to over seventy, at that point

we were advised it would be prudent to form the 501c4 non-profit Preserve East Bend for ease

of bringing other neighbors into the group.

Our original group met, voted and formed the original “Preserve East Bend, Board of Directors”

(since the initial meeting, we have added a seventh Board Member on). Our group all shares

the same passion about protecting the rural east Bend lifestyle and land that we all love to live

and recreate on.

The Board of Director positions are all non-compensated and our team has agreed to volunteer

their time to protect the land east of Bend, OR. The landfill threat became our first “initiative”

whereas all our team worked on behalf of all Bend “Eastsider’s”, by creating an organized -

“united front” of neighbors who joined with us by attending public meetings, writing and

sending emails and letters , to all county and COID officials as required to put a stop to the

landfill in our area.

Through this effort ....as of February 16, 2023, we’re happy to say the

Deschutes County Commissioners, and SWAC after unanimous vote, agreed to remove the Bear

Creek and Rickard Road sites from consideration for the new Deschutes County landfill!
